The menu isn't extensive. There are 10 pizzas to choose from, including those of the 'Speciality' variety. The bulk of the menu is comprised of drinks of both the soft and alcoholic variety.
The ambiance exactly suited us as it was busy and chatty and cheery, and my friend and I are rather loud. So I never felt I was disturbing any peace. That makes it sound like a nightmare, but it wasn't. If you did want a more peaceful slice of your visit, you would be made very welcome to sit outside on the outdoor riverside seating area.
I ordered 'The "JR"- black olives, anchovies, basil' (£10.50) - pictured above middle - and my friend ordered 'Meat Feast - artisan cured meats' (£14) - above left. The consistency of the pizza was just as I like my pizzas. Moist, thin, with a big puffy crust to top it off.
I am quite the fan of anchovies, which I have discovered in recent years, but I acknowledge that some are not in favour of the salty slippery consistency of them. In which case, these anchovies would be perfect for your taste buds - they were very subtle; so much so that I almost forgot they were there. But every now and again I would get the background hint of them - which was very pleasant I must say.
Black olives (I prefer green if I'm honest) also aren't normally my thing - but in restaurants "not really my thing" normally goes out of the window if I'm feeling confident in the standard of food in a restaurant. They were the perfect balance between black olive sharpness and green olive juiciness. Maybe they were a different kind of black olive from the kind I've tried. I'm evidently no olive expert.
The mozzarella loaded all over my pizza was pretty literally the icing on my [pizza] cake.
My friend's pizza looked to die for. That consistent theme of icing-on-cake mozzarella was still there. But with the delicious addition of many-a-meat. Both of our pizzas were oozing and juicy, succulent and so intricately flavoursome. He later said "Personally I think it's the best pizza I've ever eaten. No joke." I think that's a safe positive comment there.
I was sat with my back to the kitchen just behind me where the team behind the world famous Casamia prepared our food, which was a nice addition, and didn't make my restaurant experience any louder. The restaurant is appropriate for any type of meal; it isn't overly romantic but would make a nice spot for a date even still (unless you're two quiet individuals), and they even had space to accommodate big groups, of which there was one quite near our table. No reservations taken unfortunately. You are invited to show up and wait. We were told we would have twenty minutes to wait and that we could wait outside. We did so and the wait was probably only half that time.
This is another medium priced restaurant - neither cheap nor particularly expensive, and the quality of food was excellent enough for us to feel as though our money had been well spent, and I would definitely recommend and revisit the exciting new Pi Shop.
