I bought Mark Reid’s debut EP ‘Calling’ just before Christmas (for myself). It is an album of – in my interpretation – meditation and awe of God. It isn’t normally the style of Christian music I choose, ordinarily being more of a gospel music girl, but this EP has been a big part of my morning routine over the Christmas break.
Starting my day with its tranquil, calming melodies and harmonies has helped me to have a mindful and positive attitude, the mind-set remaining with me throughout the day. The lyrics in the songs on this EP are accessible and without pretention, something that I feel can’t be said of a lot of Christian music who’s ‘airy-fairy’ lyrics come across pretentious and meaningless. Mark Reid’s lyrics do not. They portray an honest, humble and very real relationship with God, that his composition calls you to experience for yourself (excuse the pun, it was unavoidable).
No two of the six songs on the CD sound alike; which was a breath of fresh air as I have heard a lot from this genre of Christian music, and the memorable nature of the songs mean that the meaningful and reflective words remained in my thoughts throughout the days.
At £6, this EP is more of an investment for your each and every day, the lyrics enabling your relationship and walk with God to be inspired by Mark’s lyrics and his personal relationship that comes across so meaningfully from his music. I can’t wait to hear what he will produce next, whenever that may be.
