My friend, my sister and I went to ILUVLIVE at Pryzm's MyU Bar last night to catch some local Soul, Rap and R'n'B talent performing live. We arrived just before 8 to ensure that we could enter for free (after 8 it was £3 for students, and £4 for everyone else) and it was very empty. I hadn't been to this part of Pryzm before, but the décor was sophisticated and tasteful, accompanied by both chilled out sofa areas and bar stools around higher tables. The event began about 45 minutes late, but I suppose this was partly to let the room fill out a bit more – which it did – and anyway it didn't matter as it was a good atmosphere. Everyone was being kept occupied, socialising, relaxing, getting drinks and just chilling out before the performances. |
When it did begin, there were 6 'acts' in total; Big Heartz (pictured top left), Vanessa Hartley (middle left), Lily Ava, Storm, Benjamin Ad, and Eyez (bottom left). The music ranged from acoustic guitar and vocals, to rap, to keys and vocals, and even duets and went from chilled and relaxed to upbeat, skilled lyrics with the diversity of performances. But that was what made it great – the diversity of acts meant that the audience of one genre was able to appreciate the talent from other genres all in the same night. There was a good amount of people once the night got into full swing, and everyone was hugely appreciative and encouraging of every single performance, making it a great opportunity to showcase local Bristol talent (and from elsewhere too). iluvlive tours the country throughout the year promoting local artists and hosting 60 second open mic competitions where the winner earns a place in the line up of the following month's iluvlive event. These opportunities are not to be missed by budding singers and musicians, and the events are not to be missed either if you want to keep your finger on the pulse of which artists are up and coming in your area. |
